We provide a creative and challenging academic program supported by the Quaker belief that there is that of God in everyone. From age 3 through 6th grade, PMFS builds and affirms a community grounded in cultural competency and social responsibility.
Our core values of simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equality, and stewardship (SPICES) are woven into the educational and cultural fabric of who we are and what we do.
Students collaborate with peers and teachers, using inquiry and reflection to solidify understanding and prepare them for success as lifelong learners.
Students develop a solid sense of self and social responsibility through connecting and communicating with others, and persevering to solve problems and resolve conflict collaboratively.
Hear Me Roar! A Show About Being Heard & Scene is in full effect, as 6th grade prepares for their public performances on May 17 & 18 at 7 PM. The show follows the true story of 6 characters, who identify as she/her (Beyonce, Madonna, Raquelle, Juliet, Ruth Wakefield & Frisk), and are picked to live in a house and have their lives recorded to find out what happens when women get real, supporting each other along the way. Sound familiar? If you were alive in the '90s and watched MTV, you will recognize this as the promo for the Real World. The students will stage a production much like a streaming TV reality show (with each individual character spotlighted in each episode) for a total of 6 short episodes, co-produced, co-written and performed by our fabulous 6th grade!
Creative engineering was on display in The Little House Pre-K this week, as the class used recycling and craft materials to make boats. Through this child-initiated activity, the students were able to discover several aspects of buoyancy, practice planning and revising, and revel in the self-confidence and joy that comes with intrinsically motivated learning!
Fourth grade just finished a unit on the fungal kingdom in preparation for participating in the Mold Symposium hosted by Green Street Friends last Friday. Students learned about mold and the fungal world and designed and carried out and experiment seeing how one factor impacted mold growth. They analyzed and presented their results to other fourth graders at the symposium Friday and got a taste of what the scientific process is all about.
Sixth grade students have been practicing their leadership and public speaking skills in the last few months as they've taken on planning and running our monthly community times. Prior to winter break, they led a lovely, light-themed assembly time, as seen in this photo. We value our students' voices and love to give them opportunities to share what they have to say in a more formal setting.
First Graders learned about the Tree of Life in their monthly full moon story. They drew individual trees of life and discussed living in balance with oneself, nature, and others. Then they took action by protesting the removal of a beloved tree from the playground.
The Thanksgiving Program is scheduled to take place on Wednesday November 27th, and we are dismissing at 12 pm. Please click here to complete the form to let us know how your student/s will get home, if you haven't done so already.
