Virtual Red Folder
September 6, 2018

A Great First Day!

We were all happy to see students old and new settling right in today. As soon as they got off the buses and out of cars, kids were joyfully reuniting and making new friends.

The kids were all talking about the videos that David emailed out on Tuesday. He filmed them from his front porch in Uganda! Take a look if you haven’t seen them yet:

Today was also our first Meeting for Worship of the school year. Sixth graders introduced new students to the idea of Meeting by sharing the kinds of things they like to think about. When it came time for kids to share announcements at the end of Meeting, we enjoyed lots of stories about loose teeth, summer trips, and how one girl got kicked by a horse (she’s okay now).

Expect a Virtual Red Folder with actual photos of students next week!

Four Candidates for Head of School to Visit in September

From John Gilliland, Clerk of the Head of School Search Committee

Dear Friends,

I hope this finds you well and happily engaged in the excitement and challenges of the new year.  As you know, we are currently well underway with the search for the new Head of School at Plymouth Meeting Friends School.  I am very excited to report the Search Committee has been busy this summer and I am delighted to report we have identified four candidates who will be on campus for interviews.  We are working with the school office to prepare schedules for each of the visits and we would be very grateful for your involvement and feedback on each candidate.

The schedules will be developed soon and will follow similar patterns.  We would like to ensure a quality visit for each of the candidates as well as for teachers, staff, parents, alumni, Meeting members, School Committee Members and Friends of the school.  Each visit will be two days long and will give participants multiple points of contact with the candidate. Commonalities in the schedule will include a full faculty/staff gathering, a community-wide open form, meetings with PTO, Search and School Committees, smaller group meetings with faculty and staff, meetings with administrative and support personnel and meetings with alumni and friends of the school.

After each interaction, you will be asked by our consultant, for input and feedback which will then be transmitted to the Search Committee for final discernment.  The Committee’s job is to bring forth a recommendation to the School Committee for final consideration. To accomplish this goal in a timely manner, we will be conducting four candidate visit dates during the first month of school.

Current schedules are subject to change.  The PMFS online calendar and Virtual Red Folder (sent to parents every Thursday afternoon) will include updates as needed, so please check there for any schedule changes.

The candidate visits as currently scheduled include:

Wednesday 9/12 & Thursday 9/13:  Candidate 1

Monday 9/17 & Tuesday 9/18: Candidate 2

Thursday 9/20 & Friday 9/21: Candidate 3

Tuesday 9/25 and Wednesday 9/26: Candidate 4

On the evenings of Wednesday, September 12th; Monday, September 17th; Thursday September 20th; and Tuesday, September 25th, we will host a community open forum with the visiting candidate either in the gym or the Meeting House.  These open meetings are intended to allow the candidate an opportunity to make a brief presentation followed by a question and answer session with community members. You are warmly invited to come to meet each finalist at these evening meetings.

Times and additional details will be published soon.

More information to follow as it develops.

In appreciation and gratitude,
John Gilliland
Clerk of the HOS Search Committee
