A Great First Few Days!
It has been heartwarming to see students, in-person and virtual, settling into the new school year this week. With kind guidance from teachers about physical distancing, kids were soon joyfully reuniting and making new friends. Today, grades one and up came together virtually for our first Meeting for Worship of the year and shared lots of announcements about our summer activities.
In classrooms, teachers and students are discussing goals and expectations, connecting and forming relationships, setting up routines, getting used to new spaces, and reinforcing healthy and safe habits. Specials teachers are enjoying this unique opportunity to take part in classroom learning, while also beginning in-depth projects with the classes they embed in.
A Literal Virtual Classroom in Kindergarten
This is just a screenshot, but Kindergarten teachers Tamika and Sarah have created an interactive classroom for their PMFS at Home students to explore. You might recognize it as a pretty detailed replica of their classroom at school! While in-person Kindergarteners are exploring their new personal “offices” at school, PMFS at Home Kindergartners can click on different objects throughout the virtual room to see their daily schedule, to hear Tamika read a book, and to take part in writing, math, nature, and other activities. Tamika and Sarah change up the activities every day.
Your PTO
One of the highlights of Plymouth Meeting Friends School is our warm community. All parents are part of our Parent -Teacher Organization (PTO), which typically sponsors school-wide events and fundraisers throughout the year. For the 20-21 school year, our in-person activities are being put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The PTO will provide updates as the year progresses, and look forward to finding creative ways to connect as a school community!
The PTO officers for 2020-21 are:
- Co-Clerk Trina Berk
- Co-Clerk Erin Schmitt
- Co-Treasurer Jess Hollinger
They welcome your contact and input. Co-Treasurer and Recording Clerk positions are open, so begin speaking with them or School representative Ralph (ralphh@pmfs1780.org) with your interest.
All are invited to the PTO’s monthly meetings. Meetings this fall will take place over Zoom, on every second Wednesday of the month, at 8pm. The first meeting is the exception – it will be on the 4th Wednesday: September 23, 8pm. Zoom links will be sent closer to the dates. All are welcome!!
