Social-Emotional Learning in Pre-K
Social-emotional learning is integral to our Pre-K program. The class has been reading books to help identify their feelings like Today I Feel by Madalena Moniz and books about gratitude to help form the habit of being thankful for something each day. They also practice mindfulness and have short meditations in their outdoor classroom. Mindfulness and breathing help Pre-K students stay in the present moment, acknowledge their feelings, and let feelings move through through them to find peace.
In these pictures, students are learning to work out conflict with each other, using their words. It is a vital part of learning to be one member of a larger community.
Integrated Learning in One-Two: Tree Archaeology
First and Second Grade have been working on a “Tree Archaeology” unit with Varley during their project time, exploring the world of trees and rainforests and integrating the role of archaeology and archaeologists. They investigated trees and leaves on campus, which led to writing and drawing around the students’ observations. As part of their introduction to the Amazon Rainforest, the class read the Magic Tree House book Afternoon on the Amazon by Mary Pope Osborne. Now First and Second Graders can’t get enough of the Magic Tree House book series too!
Help More Students Attend PMFS
You can help more students experience a Plymouth education by directing your individual tax dollars to provide additional financial aid for PMFS students.
Our partner, the Friends Collaborative, has received approval for individual tax credits for the 2020 and 2021 tax year. With the help of our community, that can mean more financial aid dollars for PMFS and our 19 partner Friends schools.
Through Pennsylvania’s tax credit programs, qualified individuals can make a contribution to PMFS and receive 90% of the contribution back as a dollar-for-dollar reduction of their 2020 PA state taxes. This makes large gifts very inexpensive to make. For example, a $10,000 gift will cost a donor just $1000 to make, and if you itemize, you can also claim that $1000 as a charitable gift.
