Thanksgiving at PMFS

It was a jam-packed half day on Wednesday! We held our annual Thanksgiving Concert and welcomed tons of alumni and parents. From Early Childhood classes kicking off the Program with “Hola, Hola, Hola,” to Sixth Graders jamming out to “Oye Como Va,” we loved how the program challenged and honored our children as musicians — and got us all singing along! It was lovely to see so many smiling faces filling the campus with warmth and joy. Thanks to alum and photographer Eddie Einbender-Luks for the first two photos, and Gillian for the aerial shot. Happy Thanksgiving!

Friendsgiving in First Grade

On Monday, First Graders hosted their Dragonfly buddies for a Thanksgiving Circle. They passed around popcorn, shared what they were thankful for, and each class sang a Thanksgiving Song.

Frolicking in the Leaves: BYORGT*

Plymouth Monthly Meeting and PMFS invite YOU to come out for Leaf Raking Day, a super fun day on Saturday, December 1. Work begins at 9:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm (but come for any portion of it that you can!). Kids love to play with their friends on the playground while parents tackle the leaves.

Bring your own rakes, gloves, and tarps (BYORGT*) to help clean up our beautiful campus.

Work up an appetite outside, lunch is provided by Plymouth Monthly Meeting. This get-together is part of the wonderful spirit of cooperation that enriches the School-Meeting bond in a deep and important way. To volunteer a soup or other food item, please contact Bonnie Miller at bondave.miller@verizon.net. We look forward to seeing you there!

A Wonderful Wonder Fair

We couldn’t be prouder of our Sixth Graders! After lots of hard work writing research papers on the Ancient Wonders of the Mediterranean, students turned their classroom into a Wonder Fair; set up like a science fair, teachers and students from other grades walked from booth to booth, asking questions and admiring the visual displays. The boys were poised and knowledgeable, and didn’t even laugh when Maeve said she thought the Hanging Gardens of Babylon was just a bunch of flower baskets.

Habitat Hunters

First Graders are talking about habitats with Jane and Annie. They read Nature’s Patchwork Quilt by Mary Miche and talked about what animals and plants need to survive in their habitats. They decided to explore the campus and see what kinds of habitats they could find. Everyone recorded their observations in a nature journal and then shared their findings with each other.

Delicious, Delicious Cell Biology

This crazy open-faced sandwich actually is is a cell model. Each Sixth Grader used peanut butter, marshmallows, and candies to represent the different parts of a plant cell. The bread is the cell wall and cell membrane, the peanut butter is cytoplasm, the whopper is the nucleus (“because the chocolate is the nuclear membrane!” said one student), and the marshmallows are vacuoles. Students had to describe the function of each cell part before chowing down.
