Forts and Fairy Houses with Friends from Afar

First and Second Graders have been enjoying building forts and fairy houses throughout the fall, so were excited when recent storms brought down some more raw materials. Third and Fourth Graders also like building forts, and what has unfolded is a cross-grade cooperative building project. As classes have been taking turns using different parts of campus during recess to keep pods from intermingling, the cooperation took place from a distance, each class adding to a shared fort day by day. Respect for each other’s space and for nature is a foundational part of PMFS’s social-emotional curriculum.

Learning About Personal Space in Pre-K & K

Pre-K and Kindergarten students have been focusing on moving their bodies safely and maintaining personal space during Physical Education classes, which will allow them to succeed in a variety of future games and activities. It is now more important than ever for children to understand personal space as a tool for keeping themselves and others healthy. The above photos show a game where the students dance around inside their hula hoops, moving around the field. When the music stops, the children find their own space by dropping their hoops and waving their arms, making sure not to touch their fellow classmates.

We’re Thankful For…

The whole school was given paper leaves to write or draw something they’re thankful for. We turned them into this lovely autumn tree collage. Above are just a few notes of gratitude.
