Kindergarten Nature

In Nature class, students have been learning about the season of Fall. With Sarah, they have discussed why the temperature is dropping and how the earth’s position has changed. They have learned about what trees and plants are doing — or not doing — to get ready for Winter. They have discussed migration and hibernation. Lastly, the kids have started their Mary Tree journals; after studying her parts,  they drew her in her yellow fall “sweater.”

Donor Spotlight: Young Alumni

Recent graduates Aydin Lember (‘20), Nate Markovitz (’20), and Jane Markovitz (’16) have each chosen to make gifts to PMFS this past year. Here’s what they had to say about it.

What made you want to donate to PMFS?

Jane: PMFS was so transformative for me, it helped me grow intellectually and emotionally and I know I would be a very different person if I attended a different school.

Nate: I wanted to give back to the school that helped me grow into a kind and thoughtful person.

Aydin: It is the school I grew up in and it is the school I wish I could go to throughout middle school and high school.

What do you hope your gift will be used for?

Nate: I hope it’s for scholarships so that more kids can go to PMFS and have a supportive class and teachers like I did.

What would you say to a fellow young alum who is thinking about donating?

Aydin: DO IT! JUST DO IT! You don’t have to donate that much. As long as you’re helping the community.

What do you miss about PMFS?

Aydin: I miss the community and the trees and the amount of outdoor spaces of Plymouth. I miss the teachers and all the trips we had.

Jane: I miss the teachers! I had a wonderful set of teachers who always supported me 100% and I’m so grateful I had them in my corner!

A big thank you to our generous young alumni!

Meet the School Committee

Augusta (Toti) Villanueva

Augusta (Toti) Villanueva joined the PMFS community in 2013 when her son, Julian, enrolled in Kindergarten. Across time, Toti has served PMFS in various capacities including Class Parent Representative, and the ongoing planning to celebrate the school’s Mexican Exchange 50th Anniversary. Her support on behalf of PMFS is founded on its commitment to the practice of Quaker principles, learner-centered pedagogy, and experiential learning. She is most drawn to the school’s promotion of students’ social cohesion, and the acquisition of civic skills including civic engagement, so that they may grow into confident, self-directed, life-long learners, committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Toti earned a PhD degree in sociology at The University of Texas at Austin, followed by completion of a postdoctoral fellowship in health policy studies at the University of California, San Francisco. She is an emerita faculty member at Drexel University’s Dornsife School of Public Health.

Covid-19 Testing

On campus COVID-19 testing will begin on Tuesday, November 23. In order to participate, students must be registered for testing prior to Tuesday, November 23. For a short video guide on “how to” complete the registration/consent and activate your child’s online account to view results, view video here. To complete the registration process, click here for the Affinity/Assure registration site. Families who opt out of on-campus testing must provide PMFS with negative COVID test results every Monday by 8am for their child to attend school. Please see Brenda’s November 18 email for more details.

Reminder: Half Day on Wednesday and No School Thursday and Friday

As a reminder, there will be a 12pm dismissal on Wednesday, November 24 (no BtB available), and no school on Thursday, November 25 or Friday, November 26 for the Thanksgiving holiday. PMFS faculty, staff and administration will be taking a break from checking email and/or returning messages and phone calls over Thanksgiving break. We hope you all enjoy the holiday with your families.

Please take two minutes to watch this informative video to learn how YOU can turn your PA tax dollars into scholarships and enable more students to attend PMFS.  If you have further questions, reach out to Ralph or Linda in the Development Office.  It only costs a dime to give a dollar!
