1st Grade Hones Improv Skills

This week in 1st grade Drama students discussed and explored the use of theater props in a game called “Whatcha Got There?” Students used their sense of touch (no peeking!) to choose a prop from a box and, after being asked “Whatcha got there?” by their scene partner, were challenged to rename and repurpose the prop for their scene partner to explore. Students had a blast using their imaginations and improvisational skills!

Soccer Time!

Students in grades 1-6 just completed their soccer unit of instruction. Students played a game of “treasure hunt,” which utilizes their dribbling skills. Adding the concurrent task of searching for an object allows them to practice keeping their heads up and looking around, which will help in future game play.

Meet the School Committee

Ali Conlon

Ali Conlon joined Plymouth Meeting Friends School in 2013 when her daughter, Finley, entered Kindergarten.  She was struck by the welcoming spirit of the community and the natural acceptance of everyone on campus. Ali found herself volunteering from the get-go and has supported the school in a number of capacities. She has served as PTO Co-Clerk, Strawberry Festival Chair, a parent volunteer for the school auction and most other school events, and chaperone for many of her children’s off-site field trips.  She was honored when asked to join the School Committee in 2019.

Ali grew up in Berwyn, PA. She became familiar with Friends schools when she attended Westtown School from 6th – 9th grades.  As her parents did not want her to board (a previous requirement for 11th -12th grades at Westtown), she went on to graduate from Conestoga High School in Tredyffrin/Easttown. Ali attended Lafayette College and moved to New York City after graduation.  She worked in both finance and marketing and received her MBA from Fordham University. In 2008, when Finley was born, she moved back to the suburbs of Philadelphia.

Ali is very grateful for all that PMFS has offered to her family. She appreciates the strong community she has experienced and, even more so, loves the community and connection among the students. She has found that her children have been nurtured, challenged, and supported both academically and social/emotionally.

Ali, a full-time stay-at-home mom, fills her days with dog walks, visits to the gym, supporting the School Committee, and participation in her neighborhood Homeowners Association. Ali and her husband Denis live in Ambler with their daughter, Finley (now in 8th grade at Wissahickon Middle School), son Tosh (in 6th grade at Wissahickon Middle School), and labradoodle Sydney.

Covid-19 Testing

PMFS will soon begin weekly COVID-19 pool testing of all students, faculty, and staff so that we can keep students in the classroom and prevent the spread of COVID-19. We are working with Affinity Empowering, a testing service company, who will provide the necessary training to school staff to ensure the program is run safely and efficiently. We will be in touch with more information in the coming days.
