A Little Glimpse into the Black History Month Study in Pod 5/6

Pod 5/6 spent the month of February focusing on amazing people of color who have helped shape our country.  They followed a Black History Month virtual calendar that introduced them to some well-known folks and some historical figures who were new to them.  They journaled together about these change makers and had amazing discussions about the accomplishments and contributions of figures such as Mae Jamison, Benjamin Banneker, the Tuskegee Airmen, Katherine Johnson, Henrietta Locks, George Washington Carver, Malcolm X and more.

PreK and Kindergarten Study Plants

Science students in Kindergarten and PreK are exploring the parts of a plant this rotation with teacher Meg. After talking about how all the parts of the plant work together, students examined, dissected, and used magnification tools to see the internal structure of seeds, roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. This allows students to begin to see common anatomical themes that can be seen not only in plants but throughout the natural world.

100 Day: A Kindergarten Celebration

Students in Kindergarten celebrated 100 Days of School on Monday. They each created and shared their own 100 Days shirts, creatively adored with items varying from buttons and pom-poms to reinforcement circles and band-aids. They hunted for 100 pigs, which our Kindergarten ‘Zoomers’ had hidden in their homes too. The class is still enthusiastically trying to determine where their mystery 100-day balloons came from, so the celebration continues.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day, 2021 Version

Please alert your grandparents and special friends that Thursday, March 18 is virtual Grandparents and Special Friends Day! While we are sad we can’t welcome everyone to campus, we would like to invite grandparents and special friends to join us virtually. The morning has 2 parts: grandparents and special friends are invited to join us for Meeting for Worship at 9am, where a query will be presented to the group (Please see the March 4 email from Brenda with the link to share). Each classroom will be in touch with parents about how grandparents and special friends can contribute to the classroom activities virtually!
