Fifth Grade Farm Show: Learning through Fun

A favorite trip yearly for Fifth Grade, students traveled to Harrisburg for the Pennsylvania Farm Show yesterday. Sustainability and environmental justice are key components of the Fifth Grade curriculum, and this trip builds understanding of these issues as students learn about farming practices and farm culture and see where their food comes from. Fifth Graders had a blast sampling delicious fare, climbing aboard tractors, watching livestock exhibits, and so much more. Of course, trips like these lend nicely to fostering classroom community and traveling as a group (Hmmm. Why would this be important for this group?)!

Psst… Part One of the Mexican Exchange Program starts next Thursday, 1/18. Our Fifth Graders will welcome their Williams School buddies from Cuernavaca, Mexico and step into their challenging and rewarding roles as host for two weeks. We cannot wait to see our friends and witness the magic that is the Mexican Exchange Program.

It’s Time for Your Food Program Order!

Earlier this week, the Spring 2018 Food Program Order From came home in your child’s backpack; please click here to download a copy, if needed. Orders are due by next Friday, January 19. The new program starts on Monday, January 29. We are excited to offer a few new options, while keeping our tried-and-true favorites. As always, we cannot accept late orders due to the complexity of the program and the limited number of volunteer hours.

We could really use a hand sorting pizza on Fridays if anyone would like to lend a hand. Please contact Kris Boward (kboward@centeredpsychology.com) or Nicole Armstrong (nicolearmstrong1@aol.com) if you are able to help!

Did You Get All Those Texts, E-mails, and Phone Calls?

What an unexpected start to 2018! With two weather-related closures and an early dismissal, we pulled up our systems multiple times, and you should have received a text message, e-mail, and phone call as decisions were made. Did you miss something? Contact the Main Office so we can make sure you’re always getting the impertinent information: office@pmfs1780.org.

As a reminder, after 6:30 am, families are able to:

Your Friendly Reminder: Weather-Appropriate Gear

Because outside play is such an important component of our days at PMFS, it is essential that children have weather-appropriate clothing””boots, snow pants, and gloves””if there’s snow and/or ice on the ground. Please do label all the items you would like to keep in your collection.

Sliding Back into the Swing of Things

Lower Campus has been abuzz with activity. Caterpillars all hopped on a train during Book Look; Butterflies greeted each other with a shoe exchange at Circle Time (everyone put a shoe in the middle of the circle and one by one, closed their eyes, selected a shoe, guessed its owner, and shook hands with the wearer); and Kindergarteners learned about animals and practiced Spanish.
