School Nurse

Position: School Nurse

Part Time, Salaried: The position includes five mornings per week (7:45 am-12:00pm). The position includes benefits.

Position Description: Plymouth Meeting Friends School is seeking an experienced school nurse. The nurse provides medical care to students during school hours on an as-needed basis. The school nurse also provides expertise and oversight of school health services.

The School Nurse establishes and maintains protocols for the school’s health services and manages the Infirmary. Responsibilities include the provision of medical care and services to students in accordance with physician prescribed treatment, as well as the administration of medication to students in accordance with physician’s orders. The Nurse maintains the inventory of medical and other Infirmary supplies; creates and maintains accurate documentation of all medical treatments and services; and complies with HIPAA confidentiality regulations.

The School Nurse administers first aid to PMFS students and employees as required during the school day; notifies parents; and coordinates with emergency services, hospitals and doctors, as required. The Nurse obtains and follows up on all incident reports and maintains an incident “log”. The Nurse coordinates and communicates with students, parents, administrators and teachers in respect to any special medical conditions and/or limitations and health care needs (i.e. asthma, diabetes, allergic reactions and post-injury restrictions) and responds to emergency medical situations.

The School Nurse maintains records of all student emergency medical information and physical examinations, including communicating with families and coordinating the submission of all required medical forms. The Nurse provides parents and school employees support and advice on illnesses and the management and control of infection and communicable diseases.

The ideal candidate is joyful about working in an elementary school environment. Essential competencies include excellent written and verbal communication skills; competency with basic word processing, spreadsheets and internet applications; and familiarity with current research, trends, and best practices in health and wellness. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision are expected. Facility with Google Suite is preferred.

Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree and a degree as a registered nurse required; a bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing is preferred. Applicants are expected to have at least 3 to 5 years of prior nursing experience with demonstrated adherence to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the school nursing profession.
